The county of Wiltshire is totally landlocked bordering the six counties of Dorset, Somerset, Hampshire, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire. The county is characterised by its high chalk downland and wide valleys. Salisbury Plain is famous as the location of the Stonehenge and Avebury stone circles and other ancient landmarks. It is also the main training area in the United Kingdom of the British Army.

Salisbury is notable for its wonderful medieval Cathedral with its stunning spire that can be seen from many a mile. North West of Salisbury is a limestone & clay area of the Cotswolds and North East are the chalk Marlborough Downs. The South East meets the New Forest & the South West bordering Dorset & Somerset is heavily wooded. The county itself is largely rural and there are no really sizeable towns except Swindon, Salisbury & Marlborough.

The South Wiltshire countryside is based on the river valleys that converge on Salisbury. These include the Woodford valley along the Avon to the North, the Bourne Valley to the North East, which is the best positioned for London. The relatively sparsely populated Avon Valley to the South leading to the county of Hampshire. West of Salisbury you have the Ebble Valley, and the Nadder Valley. North of these lies the Wylie Valley with an array of attractive villages.

The small town of Tisbury lies approximately 13 miles West of Salisbury and is the largest settlement within the Cranborne Chase. This small town and the surrounding villages provide one of the most popular areas to live in the county. This area is nestled between the A303 to the North, the A350 to the East & the A30 on its Southern boundary.

Wiltshire attracts film production companies for its diverse landscapes and classic architectural merit. Movies shot in the county include War Horse directed by Steven Spielberg, The Wolfman with Anthony Hopkins, The Young Victoria, The Other Boleyn Girl and Pride and Prejudice with Kiera Knightley.

London by Road: Marlborough to London via the M4 is approximately 78 miles and Salisbury to London is approximately 92 miles via the A303 & M3

London by Rail: Salisbury to London Waterloo is 1.5 hours with Tisbury a further 20 minutes travelling time.

Airport: The closest airports are Southampton & Bournemouth International (neither of which are in the county)
