Somerset is often overlooked, but is in fact a real gem. The county has been an inspiration to many poets including Samuel Taylor Coleridge and authors like R.D Blackmore who wrote Lorna Doone. South Somerset feels like an extension of Dorset with rolling wooded countryside, cider orchards and towns like Castle Cary, Bruton and Crewkerne. This part of the county is bisected by the A303.

To the North lies Glastonbury with its famous Tor and the festival that attracts hundreds of thousands for a week in June.  Close by you come to the smallest city in the country, yet one of the most picturesque - Wells. Its Cathedral has been described as ‘the most poetic of the English Cathedrals’, and is the seat of the Bishop of Bath and Wells who lives at the adjacent Bishop’s Palace.

The Georgian City of Bath, a World Heritage Site, with major earlier Roman influences, is probably the prime shopping centre in the county as well as being one of the most stunning architectural centres in Great Britain. Millions of visitors from around the world visit every year.

The Somerset Levels to the South of the county town, Taunton, provide an interesting albeit flat expanse interspersed with willow tree-lined  rhynes. Taunton itself offers a central business hub and easy access to the M5 Motorway.

On the Western fringes of the county lies the Exmoor National Park bordered by the Bristol Channel on the North and offering many pretty villages and small towns like Porlock and Dulverton.

London by Road: Taunton to London is 165 miles and predominately motorway the whole distance. Yeovil is approximately 130 miles from the capital via the A303 and M3.

London by Rail: Taunton to London Paddington in less than 2 hours. Castle Cary to London Paddington in just over 1.5 hours.
